Solving the Parmesan Cheese Problem
Woodstock, VA - There's a crisis unfolding in Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall: there's just never enough Parmesan cheese to go around. Thankfully, the cadets in Massanutten Military Academy's Sustainable Energy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) class are on the case.
To solve this problem, cadets had to make a decision matrix to figure out what design could best fix the problem. Their thoughtful analysis and strategic decision-making led them to a clear decision for this real-world problem: a cheese dispenser. Then the lesson got hands-on as cadets found sustainable sources to bring their designs to life. Utilizing recycled cereal boxes, they tested out different dispensers until they found one that fixed the problem.
Sustainable Energy is one of about a dozen new courses added to Massanutten Military Academy's curriculum for the 2024-2025 school year. Along with classes like Cooking, Home Ec/Life Skills and Sports Management Internship, MMA is dedicated to offering courses that line up with cadet interests. They're chances for students to explore unique interest in their teenage years, as well as get set up for success down the road with valuable skills. Massanutten has a long tradition of helping students reach their full potential through our holistic approach to education. MMA's approach to education integrates leadership training, advanced STEM courses like this, and character development to establish a robust foundation for lifelong success.
