Serving a Taste of World Cultures

Woodstock, VA (Massanutten Military Academy) - One of the unique benefits of a military boarding school is an opportunity to give your teenager a global education in a familiar environment. At Massanutten Military Academy, we help our cadets become world citizens with an understanding of life beyond campus and their families. One cornerstone of that education is International Day, which we celebrated on Friday, February 14th.

Massanutten focuses on character development, leadership, and service to help your student develop to their fullest potential. If you're looking for an environment to provide your teenager with structure, integrity and accountability, inquire today! Our admissions team is ready to talk with you about the unforgettable experiences waiting in and out of the classroom.

What is International Day?

International Day is a staple celebration on Massanutten's campus. Cadets choose a country they want to learn more about and research their customs or traditions. For 2025, we choose to focus on countries in Europe and their iconic dishes. After splitting into groups, cadets looked into food that originated from their location of choice.

How do cadets prepare for the celebration?

Cadets used their club time to meet and decide on the dishes they would make. They also created signs to share more information about their chosen culture and the food they served. Then, it was time to get cooking. Cadets and their faculty advisers took over the kitchen inside Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall to bring their vision to life.

How does the celebration work?

After the cooking was complete and dishes cleaned, cadets portioned out their dishes into individual servings. Each group then took a few minutes to describe their country and the food. They explained what the dish represents in each culture and how they were prepared. Then, it was time to taste. Groups went around to each table to read the signs, talk with groups and try a bite of the prepared food.
We’re grateful for all of the cadets, faculty, staff and families who were willing to give our new celebration format a try! International Day 2025 gave us all a sweet taste of success, and we’re excited to see what will be created for next year.
Massanutten graduates take the skills they learn on campus to make the world a better place.
