What to Expect at Massanutten Military Academy’s Summer STAR Program

Woodstock, VA (Massanutten Military Academy) – Unlock your child’s summer greatness at Massanutten Military Academy! Our Summer STAR programs are back in June and July 2025 with more offerings than ever before. New this year, your cadet can choose from football, rifle, soccer and basketball for one-week summer camps. Our JROTC Leadership Program, Academic Camp and Colonels Camp are all up to five weeks long.
Each program has the same four missions: Strive, Thrive, Achieve and Reinforce. They are designed to help your high school or middle school student strive where they need to grow, whether that’s improving their GPA or developing in character. Our programs also help students thrive in academics and leadership. Each one is tailored for students to retake classes, hit their stride with athletics, enjoy new experiences or earn additional high school credits. Your child can achieve better grades, leadership, athleticism and character by attending one of our summer programs. We also reinforce those skills acquired across academics, athletics and leadership.

Mr. Aaron Vallejo and Ms. Bridget Burner look forward to teaching a new generation as they offer a rifle summer camp for the first time. The focus is to learn the basics of shooting competition style and prepare a person to be on a team. A day in the life includes morning PT and conditioning as well as live fire practice. Friday will feature a full competition setting. We are also excited to offer a skilled rifle camp from August 3rd to the 9th.

Practice where former NFL players Jack Ham and Travis Fulgham once did by joining our football summer camp! Athletic Director and Football Coach Kevin Barb will lead cadets through position skills, football basics, inside conditioning and weightlifting. Our camp will give you a leg up headed into the fall competition season.

Whether you’re new to soccer or want to improve your skills, Major David Moore is ready to help you challenge yourself. Players will learn the foundation needed to be confident and successful on and off their field during their games. The daily schedule includes stretches and cardio, field work, core conditioning, tactics and plays plus scrimmage time.
Our basketball camp is led by our Postgraduate Basketball Coach Curtis Peery. More than 80 athletes from our PG program have gone on to play college basketball, with five making it to the NBA. Coach Peery will train cadets with drills, scrimmage and conditioning to help them feel confident in taking their shot.
Colonels Camp
Colonels Camp is educational and fun for our middle school campers! This unique opportunity blends education and recreation while teaching leadership, citizenship and life skills. Each week has a specific focus such as STEM, Outdoor Adventures, Military History or Aerospace. Cadets will take two field trips related to the theme of the week plus have a swim day. This program runs for five weeks from June 22 – July 26. We also have flexible attendance options so families can choose the program length that best suits their summer plans. Your child can enroll for two, three, four or all five weeks.
JROTC
Our Summer STAR Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Leadership Program is an extension of what our cadets learn during the school year. MMA hosts one of only four Summer JROTC programs in the country approved by U.S. Army Cadet Command. Some of our cadets’ favorite activities are small boat operations, rappelling and navigating across a rope bridge. Through this program, your cadet will learn and practice communication, active listening, conflict resolution and discipline. Participants who complete all five weeks from June 22 – July 26 earn one high school credit that will transfer to their existing high school transcript.
Academics
Whether the goal is to improve your GPA or earn additional high school credit, cadets can get ahead through our Academic program. Students can choose to repeat two courses or take one repeat course and a Study Skills/SAT Prep class. Massanutten offers all high school core courses during our 5-week program, which runs from June 22 – July 26. Help your child achieve better grades, leadership and character while earning high school credit.
