Woodstock, VA (Massanutten Military Academy) - At Massanutten Military Academy, we believe the power of service is a critical component in
shaping tomorrow's leaders. Supporting our community in Woodstock, Virginia, helps our cadets build empathy, compassion and an understanding of diverse perspectives. These opportunities
enrich the Massanutten experience by creating senses of purpose and leadership for each individual, extending beyond the classroom and campus.
First, cadets who are part of National Honor Society helped unload a food shipment at a local food pantry. They walked down to the church before bringing the boxes of food inside and helping to organize them. Cadets also carried packaged bags up to the distribution area.
Later that week, cadets helped welcome in the holidays by leading the Light Up Woodstock Parade through town. They marched down South Main Street between our community's proud first responders, pausing outside of the courthouse to see the tree light up for the season. Then, cadets continued their trek back to campus, where a party with cookies and hot cocoa was waiting for them to enjoy.
A group of cadets put their artistic skills to work the same weekend in downtown Woodstock. They spent a few hours downtown helping with ornament decorating and face painting for local kids.
Our cadets are also helping out neighbors in need by supporting the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. Three different groups of cadets stood outside our Walmart to help with the ringing season. The community donated a season-high amount of more than $1,100 while our cadets were there, which also happened to be the coldest day so far in the ringing season. Another group of cadets will lend a hand later this week as they show their support for the campaign outside the Food Lion in town.
