Cadet of the Month: Battalion Commander Moore

Woodstock, VA - Before meals, the Corps of Cadets is called to attention inside Cook & Kitchin Dining Hall. After prayer, promotions, recognitions and announcements, you hear the familiar voice of Battalion Commander Moore: "At ease!"

When he first got to Massanutten Military Academy, Cadet Moore was a day student. However, that didn't last very long. Halfway though his first year, he decided to become a 5-day student. That meant less time for some of his favorite things like spending time with his family, helping out on the farm and working on vehicles with his dad, but it meant he had more time to dedicate to his new passion.

"I enjoyed the ROTC and the military style," Moore said. "I knew I wanted to keep climbing, so I started working on projects with the previous Battalion Commander."

Moore helped out with the Military Ball and campus beautification projects, including laying new floor and repainting the trim. Then over the summer, he had a chance to test himself as a leader.

"I already helped out around campus so it was an easy transition," he said.

His focus on service extends beyond campus. He's also a member of a local community service organization, and never hesitates when he sees someone in need. He also leads his peers by example as a great cadet in the classroom and on the athletic field, including during the soccer season. But for Moore, he says the best part of MMA is the community.

"You're so close to the cadets," he said. "Spending all day with them, the guys and girls, they are kind of like brothers and sisters and it feels more like hanging out with family."

Cadet Moore is also one of our Admissions Ambassadors for the Fall 2024 semester. If you schedule a tour today, we'll have one of our Cadet Ambassadors available to share their experience with MMA and how it ended up as the right choice for them. You can contact our Admissions Office at 540-459-2167 Option 1 or visit their webpage to learn about an individualized roadmap to help your teenager reach new heights. MMA is still accepting new students for the 2024-2025 school year!
