Woodstock, VA (Massanutten Military Academy) – Whether it’s a meal in the mess hall or an opportunity to shine on stage, CPT Lichtenwalter tends to appear front and center.
“I’m everywhere,” she said. “I help start meals. I run the concession stand. I like to do random community service trips.”
On top of her volunteering, Lichtenwalter also serves as Battalion S1. Her rank means it falls to her to keep track of awards and make announcements. Being part of Battalion Staff has been one of her goals since she arrived at Massanutten in 8th grade.
“Perseverance,” she said. “I did what I was supposed to do; kept working my way up and finding opportunities. I knew I was in it for the long run.”
That same perseverance made it possible for her to join one of Massanutten’s most competitive sports teams.
“I didn’t make rifle team last year,” Lichtenwalter said. “I tried out but wasn’t good enough to make the cut. I knew I wanted to give it another shot this year, and now I’m proud to be part of the team.”
Massanutten also expanded her opportunities for the future, with a special focus on our STEM curriculum.
“I’m good at math and science,” she said. “The Environmental Sustainability STEM class we just added this year is my favorite. I’m still figuring out what comes after graduation, but I know I’d love to do something with science.”
Campus also is a blank canvas for Lichtenwalter to explore and enjoy the arts.
“I love reading adventure books,” she said. “Drama is also important to me. I was in ‘The Emerald Heist’ and I’m stage managing for ‘Moana Jr.’ I think what makes it so special is that it’s something fun for me to do that other people get to enjoy as well.”
Her dedication to leadership, exceptional effort in the classroom and perseverance through adversity earned Lichtenwalter the title of Cadet of the Month for January.
